STRAIGHT: A Conversion Comedy



The Magnificent Monologist
Prescient, thoughtful, insightful, funny, provocative...I could go on, but you get the picture. If not, think the late Spalding Gray (Swimming to Cambodia, Monster in a Box, et al). David Schmader's one man show is truly brilliant. I do wish that along with the likes of Andrew Sullivan, the political and cultural voices of "the gay community" were as provocative and as reasoned as Mr. Schmader. Interestingly, Schmader's critique on conversion therapy is rather clairvoyant, given that the Exodus Conversion "Ministry" recently shut-down. I admire and related to Schmader's very personal story and journey of honest inquiry as he struggles to understand what conversion therapy really is. He provides an historical context regarding the demonization of homosexuality as well as some very sound theology (I should know, I have a graduate degree in it).
